"How to Become a Writer" matched with "The Truth of Running"

Hey all, when I was reading "How to Become a Writer" it reminded me a lot of a sketch from a sketch comedy group called Studio C. This one particular sketch, "The Truth of Running," really seemed to match the same style of humor that I found within "How to Become a Writer."

Both claim something that physically harmless to be toxic on all levels. Both involve parents disproving of what their child is doing.
One line from the story that really reminds me of this video is, "You have, as your mother would say, fallen in with a bad crowd" (122).

I just thought this was cool, and Studio C is my favorite sketch comedy group, so I thought I'd share!

    Thank you for finding this hilarious video. I'm not sure that Moore is going quite as far as this sketch with the satire in "How to Become a Writer." However, I agree that they have a similar style. I think the main difference is that where this video is funny, Moore's story seems slightly more serious and grounded in reality. Its not just pure comedy, but has a message of sticking with your ideas despite criticism.

    This is a really cool blog post! I agree with Isaac that this little clip is much more funny than the story "How to Become a Writer", but I do see the similarities: both take up a lot of time, and some people regard both as second rate hobbies (some people look down on writing/humanities in favor of STEM related topics, and some people see running as requiring "less skill" than other sports such as tennis and basketball). This video lightened my day. Thanks!
